Be Your Child's Advocate

No matter whether your child is neurodiverse or neurotypical, they will win big if you back them. Easy to do at home, but maybe not so easy when dealing with 'experts'?

Developing an inner parent strength comes easy for some, however for others the mere thought of advocating for your child can be stomach churning - as for going to IEPs or conferences with phycologists - near impossible. So, first rule, build your own reservoir of courage within, with the use of a mantra; I am my child's advocate/I am my child's voice/I will do whatever it takes for my child. Find one that works for you and say it out loud, say it in the mirror and tell it to others. Telling others creates a feeling of obligation, giving that extra boost of motivation to succeed.

Next remember that no one knows your child like you and I mean no one. This does not mean that you do not seek support, as being your child's advocate in isolation, is just hard. Basically it makes you the boss, to hire and fire the support you feel is best, to demand the perfection and to remove anyone who affects your child's wellbeing in a negative way

So trust your parental instincts and surround yourself with the support, which allows your child to shine like the diamond they are.

Finally, never again concern yourself with what other people think, people are going to judge you no matter what you do. Surround yourself with those that see the hidden gem inside your child and want

to help you make it the brightest it can be.
